Thank you to NetGalley, Berkley Publishing, and Valentine PR for an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.
I love Avery’s writing, so it was really exciting to get to read another book by her that was quite different from the other books I have read by her. I am used to reading her contemporary romances, but they are “normal” – no magic involved. This one is contemporary but all the magic! It is a lot of fun, but it did take me a bit longer than normal to get into. It does have Avery’s signature snark, I just didn’t seem to connect with the characters quite as closely as I did some of her other books. That being said, It looks like it is the beginning of a series possibly, so that is exciting because there were definitely questions that I had at the end of the book that I wanted answered. I will for sure pick up the next book so that I can find out what happens next, because I am still intrigued by the chaos created by the magic of this book, but know that if you have read some of Avery’s other contemporary books the writing style did feel a little different (at least to me). Not bad, just different. Overall, enjoyable book, but I probably won’t reread it, except for maybe when the next one comes out.
