Thank you to NetGalley and Udon Entertainment for a copy of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.
I love Edgar Allan Poe. I love gothic lit and I love manga. So when the option to read a manga version of Poe stories became available to me I jumped at the opportunity. I mean, who doesn’t want to see classic tales like The Raven or The Mask of Red Death drawn out in beautiful detail? Plus, it is sometimes hard to understand the words of people like Poe and Shakespeare if you are not deeply concentrating on what is being written since the English is not the same as it is now, and having the visual ques makes it that much easier to follow the storyline. Apparently there are other books in this realm of turning “classic” lit into manga and I am now very intrigued at reading more of them. I am probably biased at how much I enjoyed this because of how much I like the stories that were chosen for this anthology to begin with, but I don’t care. There were fun tidbits of knowledge & behind the scenes information thrown in as well, so it was just overall a really enjoyable quick read. I definitely recommend it if this is a kind of thing you are already into and enjoy.
