Wicked by Jennifer L. Armentrout

This is the first series I read by Jennifer L. Armentrout after finishing the first two books in the From Blood and Ash series (I was waiting on the third when I started this) and boy oh boy let me tell you, I didn’t know what to expect. Things I knew: the cover was beautiful, a movie version of this book is slated to come out on my birthday, and that one of the characters is a male fae named Tink. Tink Fact: he is a brownie not fae – you call him fae he might bite you.

So besides the above listed information and what the back of the book said, I really didn’t know what I was about to read, but boy oh boy did I enjoy this journey. This book is listed as New Adult and I would definitely agree, and in my mind it is due to some violence & sex as opposed to any of the material being something outside of what YA readers can handle. There are fae, and secret societies, hot guys who confess their love, and it is set in New Orleans, LA – everything you could ever possibly want in a dark paranormal romance without it being overly romantic. Because this is a trilogy there are definitely things that you start to figure out as you go, but the ending made me immediately buy the rest of the series. I have also learned that there is a companion/sequel series so I am looking forward to that as well. Pretty sure I will even watch the movie because of how much I enjoyed this book.

I have learned that I really enjoy JLA’s writing, and I haven’t picked up a book by her that I haven’t liked yet. I love that her worlds are so detailed and vibrant, and basically every one of her series has a companion or sequel series which means you never seem to run out of material to read. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is ok with some steamier scenes in a paranormal fae filled book. 4.5/5
